April Madness!

One thing that has always bothered me with modern sports brackets is the idea that the team that loses the championship game is somehow the second place team.  The only thing you can really say about the team that loses the championship game is that they are better that their half of the bracket.  To do the second place properly (but not the most efficiently), I'm going to do another bracket with all 15 that didn't win my March Madness Bracket (found here).  Because PC CC:01 was the runner up from the first bracket, I'll give it the bye for the first round.  So, rolling out the definitive proof that the runner-up isn't the second best, here's my first April Madness bracket:

Well, OK, the runner up from my March Madness bracket won.  But that result shouldn't be surprising because the Port Charlotte CC:01 is my favorite whisky of all time.

Let's do it again!  (I'll remind you this post aptly has the word "madness" in the title. But I will note that any previous result is carried over to the next bracket shortening the process.)  Surely this time the runner up Lagavulin 12 CS won't win.  After all, Lag 12 CS was knocked out in the 2nd round of my March Madness bracket.

Jumping straight to the winner  ...  Lagavulin 12 CS (runner up from the previous bracket) and the runner up is Balvenie 17.

Again!  Winner: Bunnahabhain 12.  Runner Up: Balvenie 17.  Finally, the runner up from the previous round didn't win!

I carried this out until the end to determine the placement of these whiskies from 1-16 and the results are tablulated below.  The Tourney Rank is where it ranked in this particular tournament and the Colley Rank is the overall rating.  See my Whisky Rankings for more info on the Colley Rank, as well as the R-rating, win-loss, and Strength of Schedule Rank.  Not surprisingly, the Glenfarclas 105 jumped way up in my rankings with it's good showing in this tournament.  Russell's Reserve 6 Yr Rye and Jim Beam Black also punched above their weight in this tournament and moved up in the rankings.  The Filibuster and Reservoir really didn't do it for me this time and dropped.
